Sports Acupuncture

Sports Acupuncture incorporates concepts from both traditional and contemporary acupuncture to achieve maximum results in the treatment of muscular injuries. Quite often you will see this technique referred to as Neurofunctional or Contemporary Acupuncture because it is rooted in current concepts of neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, and pathophysiology.

Through use of range of motion testing, orthopedic examinations, manual muscle testing and palpation, the practitioner is able to properly identify the source of the problem and then correct the actions of the dysfunctional muscles using electric stimulation. The goal of the treatment is to re-train these muscles so that they begin to understand how to “behave properly” again and learn to fire appropriately on their own going forward.

Sports Acupuncture is also used to free nerve entrapments and allow the damaged section of the nerve to repair, thus helping the patient regain full sensation of the body part affected.

From a performance perspective, Sports Acupuncture helps athletes maximize their abilities by taking into account and treating the entire kinetic chain frequently used in their particular sport.

Each patient is assessed and treated as an individual by utilizing the more traditional aspects of Chinese Medicine, which aims to resolve imbalances anywhere within the body which ultimately allow an injury to occur in the first place.

Bringing the body into balance and correcting/tuning up overly-used muscles will not only help improve the patient’s abilities at the gym, or on the field/court, but equally importantly, will help prevent future injuries!

Sports Acupuncture allows for the methodologies of both traditional and modern acupuncture to work hand in hand in order to make a stronger, better, pain-free YOU!
